ASGE Advanced EndoscopyVideo Editing Scholarship

posted Jun 5, 2011, 3:37 PM by Ali Lankarani   [ updated Jun 5, 2011, 4:59 PM ]

During the first weekend of June, ASGE held the fifth Video Editing Scholarship Program for the Advanced Endoscopy Fellows. This year more than 35 national and international fellows participated in this prestigious meeting and learned from the experts of this filed. The aim of this consortium is to train gastroenterology fellows with interest in academia to be able to produce high quality educational audiovisual educational material. Because of my personal interest in computer sciences, programming and electronics this weekend I felt that I am among friends. I see this as mean to incorporate my personal hobby into my professional life. I am certain with the information I learned during this course I will be able to start a new venture in my life that will be self gratifying and also results in a greater good for the community.

2011 Digestive Disease Week

posted Jun 5, 2011, 3:27 PM by Ali Lankarani   [ updated Jul 24, 2011, 4:21 PM ]

This year more than 13,000 professionals with a common interest in the filed of gastroenterology gathered at Chicago during the 2011 Digestive Disease Week. One of the hallmarks of this grand meeting for me is to be able to reconnect with a number of important people in my life that unfortunately I won’t see on a regular basis. This year I was able to see some of my old mentors and friends from medical school and residency. I was also given the opportunity to present some of my research projects. I am very grateful from the colleagues that come for my presentations and I would like to express my gratitude for their comments and encouragements.

One of the new adventures of this years DDW for me was to participate in the Gutrunners 5K race. This was my first long distance run and I am sure that I will never forget that beautiful day. More than nearly two hundred individuals with the same goal of improving digestive health in the community participated in this challenge. Proceeds from this event have been donated for the colorectal cancer screening of indigent populations and education on colon cancer, obesity and other digestive disorders.

2011 National Pancreas Foundation Fellows Symposium

posted Apr 12, 2011, 8:02 AM by Ali Lankarani   [ updated Apr 12, 2011, 8:25 AM ]

April 8 through 10 NPF has hosted the fifth NPF Fellows Symposium at Atlanta. During these three days, 39 trainees from across the country with interest in the diseases of pancreas and research met. This is one of the few opportunities for the trainees to network with the leaders of the filed and enables them to form new friendships with people with the same interest.

Personally, every year I look forward to participate in this great meeting and I strongly encourage trainees with interest in the filed of pancreatology to attend this exceptional gathering.

GI Fellowship interview dinner

posted Mar 27, 2011, 11:10 PM by Ali Lankarani   [ updated Mar 27, 2011, 11:40 PM ]

Fellowship interview day is one of the most enjoyable days of the year for me. On the interview day, I have the pleasure of meeting some of the most talent people from around the nation that came to our program in pursue of a common goal, additional training in gastroenterology.

This year in collaboration with industry, I was able to arrange for a dinner on the night of the interview. The number of the applicants that were able to participate in this gathering impressed me. I hope that we were able to provide them with an accurate overview of the fellowship program. I wish all of the applicants’ good luck on this interview season and I am looking forward to collaborate with them in the future.

Each year Iranian s celebrate beginning of the spring as the Iranian calendar new year. I would like to wish a prosperous and happy year for all of Iranians around the world.

As an old custom, Iranians make sure that their home is clean and they dress new outfit as a symbol of the change. I hope this year’s change to be the start of a new democratic direction for Iranians.

I have been thinking about making a website for quiet some time now but with a busy personal and professional life, I never had time to do it. Finally, today I was able to find some free time and work on starting this website. I hope this will be a way for me to communicate with my family, friends and colleagues. In addition, I hope my children when grow up find these notes interesting and learn more about their father especially when they were very young.
